Toronto Airways has been part of Ontario aviation since 1963, when we began training pilots at Buttonville Municipal Airport. As the Greater Toronto Area grew and Buttonville’s long-term future evolved, we focused early on continuity—protecting the Toronto Airways legacy while continuing to deliver safe, professional flight training to the next generation of pilots.

A key step in that continuity plan was our 1998 acquisition of Canadian Flight Academy, an established and growing flight training provider that had been operating out of the Oshawa Executive Airport. After Buttonville’s closure timeline was announced in 2009, we consolidated our training operations in Oshawa and invested heavily in the campus—culminating in our move into a modernized facility in 2016. We’re proud of the many successful years spent there training both recreational and professional pilots, and building strong airline-focused programming, including integrated pathways that support career-ready outcomes.

Today, Toronto Airways continues that momentum from a newly constructed home at Peterborough Regional Airport, where we began developing a new purpose-built facility in 2025. With infrastructure designed to support robust aviation activity—including a 7,000-foot runway—and an environment well-suited to training, Peterborough positions our students and staff for long-term stability and growth. From first flights to advanced professional programs and partnerships (including Centennial’s integrated ATPL pathway), our mission remains the same: deliver high-quality, safety-first training that helps pilots thrive.
